For a day trip, set off to discover the islands of Morbihan, true gems of Southern Brittany. From Quiberon, Lorient or the Gulf of Morbihan, several ferry companies take you to these island paradises, each with its own unique character.
Departures from Quiberon, Lorient & the Gulf
The largest of the Breton islands, 85 km². Four towns to discover: Le Palais and its Vauban citadel, Sauzon and its colourful houses, the cliffs of the Côte Sauvage and the famous Aiguilles de Port-Coton, painted by Claude Monet.
Peaceful and bordered by turquoise waters. White sandy beaches, coastal paths and a preserved atmosphere. A car-free island: it can be explored entirely on foot in one day. Remember to bring your picnic!
Intimate and wild. A flower-filled village, historic fortress and remarkably peaceful coves. Even less visited than Houat, it is the best-kept secret of the Ponant islands.
The largest island in the Gulf of Morbihan, nicknamed the “pearl of the Gulf”. Flower-filled lanes, white houses with blue shutters and small sheltered beaches. Ideal by bike.
Less busy than Île aux Moines, it retains an authentic charm. A 17 km coastal path, tide mills, discreet beaches and subtropical gardens.
Famous for Grands Sables beach, one of Europe’s very rare convex beaches. Living maritime traditions, wild coves and the François Le Bail nature reserve.
Several ferry companies offer regular crossings to the islands:
Book in advance in July and August, as boats are often fully booked. For Belle-Île, plan a full day and rent a bike on site. For Houat and Hoëdic, bring your picnic as dining options are limited.
Île aux Moines is the easiest island for families: the crossing takes only 5 minutes, with sheltered beaches and flat routes. For the more adventurous, Groix offers suitable trails and Grands Sables beach is magnificent for children.
